Hyundai Readies Retuned Genesis Coupe for 2011 SEMA Show

Hyundai has a growing presence at the SEMA Show every year, and this year they plan to show off a number of aftermarket enhanced models to an eager crowd. While much of the focus is on performance-driven variants of the South Korean automaker's latest model, the Hyundai Veloster, they're also opting to give some attention to their most favored performance-driven ride, the all new 2012 Hyundia Genesis Coupe.

More specifically, they'll be showing off a new, supercharged variant known simply as the Hyundai Genesis Hurricane. The name alone inspires thoughts of vehicle that the road can hardly contain, but a name alone won't provide the performance to back that image up. That's why Hyundai developed the Genesis Hurricane with the aid of several other aftermarket specialists, including Magnuson Products, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International and Torvec Inc.

First and foremost, the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Hurricane was given a supercharged .8-liter V6, featuring a liquid to air intercooler. This results in the horsepower seeing a dramatic increase, from 306-hp to roughly 450-hp. Other improvements in the performance-driven coupe are seen in the improved IsoTorque differential; DeatschWerks high flow fuel pump and 600cc injectors; Bilstein monotube shock absorbers and springs; SPEC lightweight single mass aluminum flywheel and stage two clutch; and CPR Fabrication billet aluminum oil filter adapter.

"The HATCI and Magnuson supercharger demonstrates the high-performance potential of Genesis Coupe's V-6 engine - the car was engineered to handle this kind of extra power," said David Dutko, senior engineer, HATCI. "Our HATCI engineers have been working for years with Magnuson to ensure high engine output is available on future Hyundai vehicles."1

Meanwhile, the exterior of the Hyundai Genesis Hurricane has also been overhauled, in order to give it a presence that is every bit as dominating as its name and performance suggests it should be. Included in the refined exterior of the Genesis Hurricane is a new front bumper, grille, hood, 19-inch wheels, side skirts, diffuser and a new rear deck with spoiler. Combined with its black paint job, this vehicle is a true phantom of the road!
